Bayan DSL Revisited

My bubby has been using Bayan DSL in Valenzuela since January 27 and since then, we have not encountered any technical problems except for 1 time when our connection was down but only for an hour. That was the one and only case, and up until this day, he still tells me how happy he is with his Bayan DSL connection. It’s also cool that Bayan DSL offers an online forum for their users or even just for people who are curious to know about the quality of service the company provides. The forumers are quite a nice bunch of people, and most of them are ready and eager to answer your questions, and they even have Bayan employees who also answer questions and technical support questions within the forum.

So for those who are interested, feel free to drop in and visit the Official Bayan Support Forum.

It is now December 2011. This blog may have been true more than a year ago.

Sadly, BayanDSL’s quality of product and service has degraded during the latter part of 2010 and blatantly during 2011. SOD is now a thing of the past. Although you still get the SOD speed when doing a speedtest on their local servers (i.e. Mandaluyong or Quezon City server), you will only get a quarter of that when doing a speedtest on international servers. Latency is so high that international games (World of Warcraft, Dragonest, etc.) are now barely playable, and download speed to international file servers (rapidshare, megaupload, etc.) are severely throttled down to 1/4 of your supposed download speed. Torrents with supposedly high number of peers also have their download speed severely throttled.

I should know because I’ve been a BayanDSL subscriber for more than two years now. I have decided that 2011 will be my final year with Bayantel. There are other providers out there (like Globe and PLDT) that have already eclipsed the debt-ridden Bayantel in terms of cost and quality.
