Satellite TV vs. Cable TV

After the talk about LCD TVs vs. LED TVs, let’s now get into Satellite TV vs. Cable TV. I must admit, I still use Cable TV but not by choice. We simply do not have a competent Satellite TV provider in our area (outside the US/Can) so we’re forced to stick with Cable TV providers.

There are a few who offer Satellite TV service but the feedback hasn’t been great since they’ve only been operational for 1 or 2 years, and only in select areas. However, I have been reading a lot about those that switched from Cable TV and how satisfied they are with their transfer.

Researching about it online and from reading some info from the dish blog, I’m more inclined to switch to Satellite TV once the service would be available to us.  Some of the benefits I’ve read online are – that costs are cheaper, especially for multiple TVs; better service as signal may be lost only due to severe weather conditions; more channels available than those on cable TV; less audio/video noise; and that it is all digital.

The only two disadvantages I’ve read so far (aside from loss of signal due to geographic location) is that some people experience satellite network access delay and that some cannot have on-demand shows/movies.  I guess the first point may be subjective based on weather or location, and the second may have already been addressed by now since so the disadvantages from the old forums may no longer be applicable once the service becomes available here.

At any rate, comments, feedback and suggestions are still welcome should you have any opinion regarding cable tv and satellite tv service.  Just leave a note below and I’ll definitely consider them soon, hopefully.

Basement Music Station

Although a lot of tools are available online, is it enough to rely on them for starters or would it be wise to invest on your own tools and equipment?

This seems to be a hard decision for most young musicians who want to start a career in music. Coming from a family of musicians, I personally know of a couple of relatives who resort to anything free online just so they can come out with their music.

Yes, granting that these kids are still in school, as parents or grown ups, I believe that supporting their “interests” (as long as they are valid of course) as much as we can is of utmost importance. Knowing when and what to invest on is important especially since this “musician” stage may be a phase in a child’s/teen’s/college student’s life.

Buying quality used gear, like perhaps from American audio mixers is a great way to show support to your child’s talent. Knowing that you’re still buying quality material for a lower price can definitely help them realize their dreams. Then when they do decide to pursue a career, they can slowly work on investing other materials for themselves which will also teach the children to put value on their hard work.

But for now, a basement music station using whatever means and equipment may be feasible. Then again, things that start in the basement may eventually come out big… like Apple, right?

Apple Launches iPhone5 among other things

September 12 marked the day, the day that Apple launched the new iPhone5 among other things. With all the leaked images and the Samsung-Apple controversy, everybody was curious to know what’s new with Apple’s latest product.

The iPhone 5 is now the world’s thinnest phone.  It is 18% thinner (7.6mm) and 20% lighter (112 grams) than the iPhone 4S.  The phone is made entirely of glass and aluminum, contrary to previous rumors of being made in platinum like an expensive platinum ring.

Aside from a better retina display of 326 PPI, it now features a 4-in display with an11x36 screen resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio.

On Insurance

Being an employee, I have only been aware of certain types of insurance that are part of our benefit package. There was the optional Life Insurance, the group insurance and the health insurance. I have always paid much attention to these three until I left the workforce and start doing some part time work from home.

Now that we’re venturing into our own business and career, we should also consider Business Liability or Commercial General Liability Insurance. Browsing what it’s about, I know it will definitely be an advantage for any business, whether it is small-scale or not. It will not only protect us and our business but also our clients in the event that something untoward may happen.
