I Love BayanDSL

Hi folks. Sorry I haven’t blogged here for over a week, been a little busy with some personal stuff.

BUT, as promised, I will be giving you my feedback on my new DSL connection, which is provided by BayanDSL. Here goes:

Application was VERY easy. I went to the Bayan Center, filled out a form, and paid P1,000 for the installation. Installation fee is P1999, you have the option to pay it outright, or pay P1000 as a downpayment, and then pay the remaining balance in 4 installments at P250 per month. I chose the latter, and the plan I got was the lowest one for P899 with up to 786kbps. I don’t need super fast internet, since I just use this for work and I don’t really download a lot of stuff. Anyway it came with a free Speed on Demand which meant that from 10PM-10AM (Manila time), my speed is up to 1.2mbps.

Installation was pretty quick too. I applied on a Thursday, which was January 21, and my line was installed on January 26. The modem was delivered and my connection activated on January 27. Should it not have been for the weekend, I’m pretty sure they would have been able to install it earlier. The installation service was great. The lineman even asked us if we were satisfied with how the wires looked, if not, he could make the tapes tighter or something. But we were very satisfied, because the lines weren’t just left lying there. It was fixed to the walls pretty nicely. No loose wires hanging about.

Now for the service itself. Well, I just did a speed test about a minute ago, and note that since it is past 4 in the morning, I am under the free Speed on Demand hence this speed. Will post another speed test results during the daytime without the SOD so you can see the difference.

And for me..the best part of it all is their SUPERB customer service. I received a call about 3 days after my DSL was connected. The rep explained everything to me regarding my plan, the speed on demand, my billing cycle, my due date, when to expect my bill, where I can pay the bill, etc etc. Everything was covered I didn’t have to ask anything. Plus, they were uber polite. Believe me, my mom has PLDT in our place in Makati, and their customer service is nowhere near Bayan’s level of service. I love it.

hi sis! there are several bayan centers.. if you’re in qc, you can drop by the main branch along roosevelt, or the one in sm north annex building. by the way, they have a service wherein you can just call their hotline at 4492000, tell them you would like to apply, and their messenger will be the one to pick up your application form, requirements (photocopy of id and billing), and payment. you don’t need to go anywhere! talk about service. :)

It is now December 2011. This blog may have been true more than a year ago.

Sadly, BayanDSL’s quality of product and service has degraded during the latter part of 2010 and blatantly during 2011. SOD is now a thing of the past because although you still get the SOD speed when doing a speedtest on their local servers (i.e. Mandaluyong or Quezon City server), you will only get a quarter of that when doing a speedtest on international servers. Latency is so high that international games (World of Warcraft, Dragonest, etc.) are now barely playable, and download speed to international file servers (rapidshare, megaupload, etc.) are severely throttled down to 1/4 of your supposed download speed. Torrents with supposedly high number of peers also have their download speed severely throttled.

I should know because I’ve been a BayanDSL subscriber for more than two years now. I have decided that 2011 will be my final year with Bayantel. There are other providers out there (like Globe and PLDT) that have already eclipsed the debt-ridden Bayantel in terms of cost and quality.
