No more I’m feeling lucky from Google

Just read an article from Google Systems that Google have or will be removing the “I’m feeling lucky” button on their search page. Personally, I have only used that button once, and it was because of a silly joke that spread in email.

I don’t think a lot of people will miss it.  I don’t think a lot of people use it in the first place.  Their new interface though looks interesting, kind of what we see frequently nowadays with other systems.  The navigation menu and preview boxes are some that we also see in updates such as what I saw in the new Yahoo! mail.  When I saw that, I was happy that it makes it easier for users to see how many comes up and separated into categories like in which folders and what year/month.  I haven’t seen the new Google layout yet, only the screencaps provided in the article but I am definitely excited to see how it works and if it will make  my life easier.

Has Google removed the I’m lucky button in your search page already?  How do you find the new layout?  Is it easier to navigate?  Hope you can share your thoughts.

Free Calls to the US and Canada!

Google Voice now offers free calls to the US and Canada using the Google Voice Application. In fact, you can make calls to your relatives and friends in the US and Canada simply by logging into your Gmail account and clicking on the Call Phone button just right under the Chat panel on the left side of your Gmail screen:

VOILA! Just key in the area code and phone number of the person you want to reach on the typebox and click on CALL. And you can start chattering away. I tried this and I can say that the call quality is quite good. Much better than Skype, IMO. But this is dependent on your connection quality as well, so don’t expect superb call quality if you’re using an unstable internet connection.
