Yes! Back Online with Satellite Internet

So I Moved, and… There’s no Internet?

Who would have thought, I move out to the country, and there’s no Internet? Well, there is, but it’s with the screechy modem thing, and then nothing works. I mean, it does, but you go on Youtube and it takes fifteen minutes to download one music video. And of course, the phone line is blocked at the same time. I guess I really took it for granted that high speed would always be around, but up this country road, there’s no cable. And no cell service, either – I have to use the land line (when it’s not trying to download my email, that is). Well, I thought there was cable here, because the neighbor gets channels, but it’s Direct TV. The signal comes from the satellite. So, I looked things up, and…

I’ve Always Wanted My Own Satellite Dish!

I used my dial-up connection to get to http://www.directstartv.com, and found the link for satellite internet. Yes!  Direct TV has it, and I don’t even have to use the phone line. And the download speeds are just as good as a cable modem. I had the installer come out, and since my laptop already had a PCMCIA card, I didn’t need to do anything but plug in. The installer did all the work on the roof and now I have my own satellite dish to boot. Who doesn’t want one of those? It’s not like the ones listening to deep space – this one is no bigger than a pizza box, and you can’t even see it unless you know just where to look.

Now I Surf Just Like in the City

So now that I have the Direct TV internet service, I surf and work just like I’m in back in the city – even if there isn’t a smokestack in site. I can move just as fast as I did with my cable Internet.
